Network AIX & TSM Server Administrator

Phoenix Health Systems, Inc., a nationally recognized healthcare IT outsourcing and consulting firm is currently seeking a Network AIX & TSM Server Administrator to work at our client site, East Jefferson General Hospital in the Metairie, LA metro area.

Summary:
The Network Server Administrator functions as the network administrator for the network he or she administers (Unix AIX and Tivoli Storage Manager Backup and Recovery System) and is responsible for the design, configuration and maintenance of that network. The Administrator will help design, implement and maintain network security.  He or she will administer and maintain the backup system schedules and configurations for the devices on the network they administer. The administrator will be knowledgeable of and participate in the hospital disaster recovery plan as required.  The Administrator will be responsible for the implementation of updates and new technologies as required for the specific network administered.   The Administrator will provide application and user support as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the applicable network to provide reliable and secure user access to network resources.
  • Designs or assists in the design of network enhancements and new technologies to be applied to the network.
  • Monitors network operation and performance to maximize system performance and minimize network downtime. Have or gain working knowledge of tools used to monitor network events and respond to broadcast alerts generated by monitoring systems.
  • Maintains applicable virus protection agents on the network to insure application and user protection from virus attacks.
  • Maintains and monitors the network backup system to insure reliable network backups. 
  • Provides communication and support to users, the Help Desk, and IT support groups.
  • Provides applicable application and vendor support.
  • Acquires working knowledge of mission critical components of the network environment.
  • The Network Server Administrator will be available for on-site or remote support during Disaster declared or Disaster test activities such as hurricanes or other emergency type situations and will be expected to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of Disaster Recovery team roles when assigned.
  • Complies with reasonable requests to perform other duties.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with server hardware platforms, including configuration of server hardware and peripherals.
  • Working knowledge of network protocols/topologies including TCP/IP and Ethernet.
  • Working knowledge of routers, switches and hubs desirable.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring and performance measuring tools.
  • Experience with web based applications and web access.
  • Knowledge of hospital environments and applications very desirable.
  • A proven ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management and technical and user support personnel is required.
  • Must be able to think logically and analytically and make decisions based on good judgment. 
  • Will supervise and manage projects and other activities as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Applicant must have design, implementation and in-depth experience with the applicable network Operating System (UNIX AIX, and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Backup and Recovery System, and components common to those networks and environments.
  • Must have experience with the design and administration of IBM AIX networks and servers including IBM AIX OS version 5.3 or later.
  • Must have working knowledge of the Tivoli TSM backup application. Experience with the design, implementation and support of Tivoli TSM backup systems is highly desirable.
