Phoenix Health Systems, Inc., a nationally recognized healthcare IT outsourcing and consulting firm is currently seeking a Physician Informatics Coordinator to work at our client site, East Jefferson General Hospital in the Metairie, LA metro area.
Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and driving successful clinical transformation at East Jefferson General Hospital, by engaging physician and clinical leadership including Quality Management in the implementation of information systems, processes and standards. Is a member of the physician support team, which provides entire life-cycle of project development, including business systems analysis, prototyping applications, subsequent implementation of programs/systems, whether in-house or purchased. Works with the IT Applications Director to establish project teams and coordinates their activities, as required by project assignment. He/she works in conjunction with the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO), the Clinical Operations Committee, the Electronic Medical Record Committee (EMR), and the COMPAS project management team to promote the development, adoption and utilization of information technology by physicians as a means to improve the delivery and quality of patient care; Provides operational support for the design and development of care sets. Prepares activity and progress reports; Provides general consulting, reporting needs and problem solving services; Identifies needs for changes in environment to promote system use; Provides physician and clinician training and support in the use of information technology on an ad hoc basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Creates, organizes, and assist with the implementation of project plans in accordance with the strategic plan, and collaborates with and guides clinicians in identifying opportunities for improving quality and efficiency.
Communicates effectively in order to provide optimal support of all physician information systems needs and to promote a professional climate throughout the hospital.
Works with appropriate leadership to help support physician project assignments. Develops strategies for applications based on analysis and research in assigned specialty area.
Ability to formulate policies and procedures relevant to program and administrative activities of a complex, interrelated, and interdependent nature where unknown and numerous contingency factors are involved.
Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications and to ensure the information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
Understands physician needs and practice workflow. Translates workflow into application development and improvements with regard to clinical and technical applications. Facilitates physician problem-solving. Exhibits knowledge of current medical practices, standards, delivery systems, and documentation methods and trends.
Develops, coordinates, and implements communication strategies for physician IT initiatives with the guidance of the CMIO. Assists with monthly physician newsletter and physician website content related to the COMPAS project and ongoing IT initiatives.
Participates in team approach to physician IT adoption and utilization, involving the CMIO, Electronic Medical Record Committee, Medical Staff, IT Applications, Administration, the vendor, and other departments, as needed. This approach includes coordinating and attending site visits and on-site demonstrations of various software vendors.
Follows established standards of system design, configuration and testing during the development process using Change Management protocols.
Monitors flow of care sets, builds care sets in Word then with careful coordination, creates care sets in production. Ensures CKI mapping is maintained.
Responsible for compliance with JCAHO and other state, federal and regulatory agencies to contribute to the integrity of the automated clinical information application and hospital policy.
Must respond to problems, requests, and support via the Help Desk tool per Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards.
Performs other duties related to Information Systems Division as assigned.
Qualifications:
Has experience working with physicians and physician office staff, as well as a working knowledge of such workflows.
Good computer skills with knowledge of a clinical information system.
Must be willing to learn and practice project management methodology utilized in IT.
Working knowledge and experience with our primary hospital application software is preferred.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Clinical field, Informatics or Health care required.
Minimum of two years experience required in a clinical field.
One year of computer experience required.
