Network Engineer

Phoenix Health Systems, Inc., a nationally recognized healthcare IT outsourcing and consulting firm is currently seeking a Network Engineer to work at our client site in the Metairie, LA metro area.

Summary:
The Network Engineer is responsible for assisting in maintaining the local and wide area networks at current support levels on all network device platforms and assisting in the design and implementation of new network related devices, tools and technologies.  The Network Engineer will serve as a resource for the Network Services group to assist the IT Technical, Operations and user support staffs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, and installation, and support of all LAN, WAN and Wireless network equipment and technologies.
  • Work under guidance of the Senior Network Engineer during network projects and activities to help achieve optimal network performance and to insure compliance with existing Service Level Agreements. 
  • Monitor the LAN, WAN and Wireless equipment to measure performance; identify deviations from existing service levels and assist in implementing timely solutions to issues adversely affecting network performance and systems.  
  • Assist in ensuring that procedures and changes for the network support of the IT department are tested and documented.
  • Make recommendations for methods to improve service levels and minimize network outages from improvements in network infrastructure design.
  • The successful Network Engineer candidate will participate in the disaster recovery process, including being available for on-site or remote support during a disaster related event.
  • Assist in the management of network projects and other activities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to think logically and analytically and make decisions based on facts gathered.
  • Position requires ability to simultaneously diagnose and resolve multiple network problems and issues and the ability to assist in multiple new and ongoing network projects.
  • Experience and working knowledge of network management, monitoring and performance measuring tools required.
  • A proven ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management and technical and user support personnel required.
  • Knowledge of hospital environments and applications very desirable.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Current network certification/s generally recognized in networking field very desirable (CCNA, Network+).
  • Two or more years of experience and working knowledge of Cisco IOS.
  • Candidate must have experience and working knowledge with the majority of LAN, WAN and wireless technologies and devices presently utilized by the hospital and those currently planned or being considered for future implementation.  These include but not limited to the following:
    • Cisco 4006/4506/6509 devices
    • Cisco 3500/3600/3700 series devices
    • Cisco 2600/2800/3800 series devices
    • Cisco ASA/PIX Firewall Devices
    • Wireless networks and devices including standards 802.11a/b/g
    • VOIP
    • Spanning Tree Protocol
    • Cisco ACS
    • SolarWinds
