IT Outsourcer Phoenix Health Systems and East Jefferson General Hospital Offer Web/Audio Conference on Hospital's Nimble Katrina Disaster Recovery

Montgomery Village, MD – October 26, 2005 – Phoenix Health Systems and East Jefferson General Hospital have announced they will conduct a web / audio conference offering a detailed case study of EJGH’s successful systems and operations recovery from Hurricane Katrina. Only three hospitals in the New Orleans area survived Katrina. The purpose of the 90-minute November 8 program is to detail the team’s extraordinary experience and share lessons learned with senior executives of other hospitals who may be faced in the future with extreme crises.

As Hurricane Katrina forced most New Orleans healthcare facilities to close their doors, East Jefferson General Hospital more than held its own, with the resourceful support of its IT outsourcing partner, Phoenix Health Systems. Less than a week after the storm, Phoenix’ on-site IT outsourcing team had all major systems up and running, enabling the hospital to continue providing essential care to storm victims and city emergency workers. The Phoenix staff followed a detailed disaster recovery plan and successfully improvised innovative solutions to address the extraordinary conditions and duration of the crisis. In addition to ensuring systems back-ups, securing hardware, and properly moving the hospital’s multi-million dollar HIS equipment to upper floors, the team established alternate communications conduits and critical work-around solutions for a working main-frame and maintenance of the hospital’s reimbursement stream and employee payroll -- after power, communications and enterprise IT systems were lost through the hospital’s established providers.

Participation in the web/audioconference is being offered gratis, as an educational contribution to hospital C-suite members, only. EJGH CEO Dr. Mark Peters, CFO Bruce Naremore, Phoenix’ outsourced CIO Don Chenoweth, and Phoenix Director Marc Bouyelas will report on their before-, during- and after-experiences, and how their lessons learned could benefit other healthcare organizations. Beginning at 1 PM (Eastern), November 8, the 60-minute presentation will be followed by a live 30-minute Q/A session.

Hospital C-Suite members, only, are encouraged to participate in this free event. For more information and to register, visit www.phoenixhealth.com/audio.cfm.
